'Spirit Stick'
The 'Spirit stick' will help bring players together at the 2020 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships in Regina, Saskatchewan May 9-16, 2020.
The 'spirit stick' will be carried onto the ice before every Team Sask Male & Female hockey game at the 2020 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships.
The Spirit Stick was gifted by Kwanlin Dun First Nation Elder, William Carlick to Team Saskatchewan as the next Host. It's meant to connect players with their culture, spirit and offer protection.
One player steps out alone onto the ice, and circles the entire rink carrying the spirit stick.
"This stick is meant to connect the players to their spirit," said Carlick. "It's for all the players and teams ... it provides guidance and protection”.
The Spirit Stick has travelled across the Prairie Provinces this past summer by keeper and Traditional Dancer, Glenn Pelletier. NAHC 2020 Committee thanks you for your commitment in keeping the “Spirit Stick”.
